We have a wonderful 5 year old Lab that we adopted. Since she had lost her best friend and housemate a few months earlier, she was suffering with depression. During that time, we just could not find a holistic dog food that she liked. So one day, my husband and I decided to visit Four Paws Pantry and Spa.
What we found there were people who loved our dog as much as we do! They were able to recommend a food they thought she should try, and Macey loves it, and we are now devoted customers to Four Paws! We finally decided that Macey needed another housemate, so in June 2013, we adopted Krypto.. She was 6 months old, and we were told she was part German Shepherd and part Black Lab, and only weighed 28 pounds.
Previously she had been in an abusive home for two months. At that home, she was locked in the basement up to 12 hours a day, and then the owner would get mad when she pooped and peed (I am 47 and can’t hold it for 12 hours, how in the world was a 4 month old puppy supposed to be able to?). The previous owner got mad, so he stopped feeding her and gave her small amounts of water. After 2 months, thankfully, this person returned her to the Heart of America Humane Society. So needless to say, they were very picky about who would adopt her next. We went through the screening and were chosen!
She was being fed a “store brand” dog food, and her coat was coarse and dry and she had constant diarrhea from the food and her delicate tummy. We immediately went up to Four Paws Pantry and Spa, and once again, they were able to recommend a food that was holistic and would be gentle on her little tummy!
I am pleased to say, that at almost 9 months old, Krypto is up to 49 lbs and gaining weight and progressing normally. She will always be a smaller dog, due to the malnutrition, but at least we don’t se e her spine and ribs protruding anymore. I also have to add, that Krypto has some anxiety issues when I am not home and we had some serious destructive chewing, and once again, I went to Four Paws, and they told me about Elk Antlers, which I had never heard of. So no more hearing aids, new tennis shoes, books and important papers being chewed! Both her and Macey love the elk antlers.
It is nice to have two very happy and content dogs, and for that I thank Four Paws Pantry and Spa! The picture is Krypto in the foreground, and Macey chewing on an elk antler in the background.
