Meet Bella & Remi

I have always wanted a dog of my own but with my busy lifestyle working 2 jobs approximately 80 hours a week, that just wasn’t a possibility.
Well life threw me a curve ball on May 9, 2018 as I was admitted to the ICU at OMC. Literally hanging on for dear life my world was turned upside down. Weeks in rehab/kidney dialysis and off work for 3 months gave me time to reconsider my previous routines. Life is too short to kill yourself working.

I had my eyes on a couple of boxer rescues that for one reason or another didn’t work out. Bella came into my life at just the right time once I had regained my health. Guess you can say we rescued each other.

Unfortunately, Bella was diagnosed with bone cancer a mere four months later. Knowing our time would be cut short we started working on our bucket list. My time with Bella was brief but honestly the best five and a half months imaginable. On July 1st, I said goodbye to my soulmate…the most difficult day of my life and I didn’t think I’d ever be able to love another fur baby in that capacity again.

3 months later, Briana called to inquire as to whether I would consider the possibility of fostering another pup. I wasn’t sure my heart had healed enough but “Merriweather” was so precious she stole my heart immediately. After extensive surgical repair to her palate and medical boarding to heal properly she was back in my care. A month later Merriweather, (now “Remi”) was officially adopted into my family.

I am forever grateful to Jen Dulski and Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary for allowing me to be Bella and Remi’s mama.
