Q & A – How often should I clean my dog’s teeth?

4PAWSAdmin Bathing & Grooming, Cats, Dental, Dogs, Featured Products, Nutrition & Health, Treats

Cleaning your dog’s teeth is an important part of maintaining their overall health and preventing dental issues such as gum disease and tooth decay. 4 Paws Pantry & Spa have some general guidelines for how often you should clean your dog’s teeth:

  • Daily Brushing: Ideally, you should aim to brush your dog’s teeth every day. (Twice a day if possible) This helps to remove plaque and prevent tartar buildup, which can lead to dental problems over time. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste specifically designed for dogs, as human toothpaste can be harmful to them. We have a lot of good options in store, and our trained staff can help answer any questions you have about our products.

  • Supplementary Dental Care: In addition to brushing, you can also provide your dog with dental chews, toys, or treats that are designed to help clean their teeth and promote good oral health. We have a plethora of amazing toys, chews and treats in store to help keep your dog’s teeth clean on the days we may forget to brush. Be sure to ask our staff at 4 Paws which options are available that help clean teeth and gums!

  • Monitor Dental Health: Keep an eye on your dog’s teeth and gums for any signs of dental problems such as bad breath, swollen or bleeding gums, discolored teeth, or difficulty chewing. If you notice any issues, consult your veterinarian promptly for advice and treatment.

The bottom line is to make dental health a priority for your pet’s health. Healthy teeth and gums—just like what we need as humans—are essential to a happy, healthy, long life. As with anything, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to our staff via phone, email, or by stopping by our Olathe pet store to say hello!
